WHY ME
PROGRESS
FOR PEOPLE
I’m not your usual candidate for UN Secretary General. As a working-class millennial woman, global citizen and employee of the UN, I bring both a different perspective and inside knowledge of the system. And at this crucial time, this is just what the UN needs to make a difference to people around the world.
A NEW
GENERATION
My generation does things differently. We are full of pride, purpose and passion to make the world a better place. With our high levels of creativity and problem solving, and our entrepreneurial skills, we also have the tools to do it.
ACTION,
NOT WORDS
For too long, the UN has done things in the same old ways. But the time for change is now. The time for action is now. The time to make the UN work for the people it’s supposed to serve is now.
WHY NOW
WHY NOW?
The UN has made promises to the world. To promote peace and security.
To protect human rights. To enforce international law.
These promises have not been fulfilled and we must urgently turn to action.
We can create a new UN that put people at its heart. We can change the way funds are spent, giving more to causes, less to bureaucracy. We can build better lives for people across the world. We can deliver on the UN’s promises – now.

UN Auditor Arora Akanksha speaks to Ayman about her ambition to become the UN's next Secretary General
Arora talks to Mike Wagenheim of i24NEWS about her candidacy for UN Secretary General
Arora Akanksha is the first woman to throw her hat in the race for UN secretary-general this year for the five-year term starting in 2022.
All nine UN Secretary Generals in its 75 year history have been men, but a young UN audit coordinator hopes to change that and reform the organization to better serve the world’s current issues.
The United Nations auditor….has declared her candidacy for secretary general — an audacious bid to shake up an organization that she says badly needs it.
A new UN now
The UN has made promises to the world. To promote peace and security. To protect human rights. To enforce international law. These promises have not been fulfilled and now the time for words has passed. We must urgently turn these promises into actions.
Together we can create a new UN that puts people at its heart. We can use the funds we have to affect real change. We can build better lives for people across the world. We can deliver on the UN’s promises – now.
Arora Akanksha

My candidacy
I believe the UN is the right place to drive positive change for everyone. And I believe in action.
Alongside its huge potential, I have seen the UN’s failures. My defining moment came on a mission to Uganda. I saw a child on the side of the road, who was eating mud to survive. The response when I reported back to the organisation that actually exists to serve that child; “Mud contains nutrients.” My task now is to bring fresh perspective and challenge those who accept this as the status quo. To use my experience as a global citizen from a family of refugees, to represent people all over the world. To ask, why not be the first? The first female Secretary General. The first to build a new UN.
As Secretary General, I will build a UN that fulfils its promises to the people it serves.
And why not now? The time to talk about change is over. We cannot afford to wait another day. The time for real change is now.
Solutions
How we will create impact for the people who need it most.
SOLVE THE REFUGEE CRISIS PERMANENTLY
Prioritize funding – to ensure that all refugees receive the humanitarian assistance they need to survive and are not subject to human rights abuses
Help refugees build normal lives – by providing them with the tools and opportunities they need
Create international, sustainable solutions – through voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement of refugees
TAKE ACTION AGAINST
CLIMATE CHANGE
Invest in nature-based solutions – to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Empower young people to lead the charge – youth unemployment is a huge issue, but also a huge opportunity. We can solve both by employing the young to be part of the climate action solution.
Employ entrepreneurs – replace consultants, technocrats and bureaucrats with local entrepreneurs who can create innovative new eco-friendly systems and solutions
GIVE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION
Invest in technology and education – this has proven a higher return-on-investment for countries that have transitioned from low income to middle/high income
Ensure universal internet access – to make ideas and connectivity achievable for all, no matter where in the world they are
Create universal online education – a free online education platform for K-12 classes, so that all children can learn without restriction. Supported by a global mentorship program
- Refugees
We will make it a priority to find permanent solutions to the refugee crisis.
We will prioritize funding to ensure all refugees are provided the required humanitarian assistance to survive and are not subject to human rights abuses.
We will ensure refugees are provided with the means, tools and opportunities to build back a normal life.
We will bring countries together to provide sustainable solutions to refugees either through voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement of refugees.
- Humanitarian Crisis
Solving humanitarian crises requires innovative use of limited financial and human resources.
We want to introduce an all expenses covered model where youth can be hands-on and solve humanitarian crises.
Half of the world population is under 30. Youth today want to contribute to society in meaningful and impactful ways. Yet, the only ways the UN allows them to get involved is through donation or advocacy. We want to change that and utilize the untapped potential of this generation. We will introduce an all expenses covered model where youth can be hands-on and solve humanitarian crises.
This will also ensure the majority of funding received for humanitarian crises is used towards beneficiaries.
- Technology and
Education
Investment in technology and education have proven to deliver the best return on investment for countries that have transitioned from low income to middle/high income.
We will ensure all parts of the world have access to the internet. If a bottle of coke can find its way to every part of the world, why can’t we have the internet in every part of the world?
We will create a free online education platform for K-12 classes that will allow all children to learn without any geographic or physical restrictions. This online learning platform will be supported by a mentorship program that will allow anyone over the age of 18 to be a mentor..

In order to win, we need:
